School Construction Leads to Street Closing
May 21, 2009 Online Edition
Riverdale Country School will shortly begin work on a new synthetic turf field, a school official announced last week. At a May 12 Community Board 8 meeting, David Patnaude, the school’s director of plant and sustainability, said work on replacing the field and bleachers for the school should begin Monday, June 1.
Mr. Patnaude said that West 253rd Street between Fieldston Road and Post Road would be closed at times during the fourmonth construction period. Though nothing was certain yet, he said, the street might be closed six days a week during peak construction, Monday through Saturday, for through traffic.
Construction will take place weekday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., he said.
The synthetic turf will use a combination of coconut husk and cork for infill, rather than the currently standard granulated rubber tires. Mr. Patnaude said that in addition to being a sustainable material, the turf the school is using would retain less heat. |
